Project: Making a Video Game
Title: Time and Place Client: Video Game Design Studio Date: May 2020 Project Description
Time and Place is a narrative based 2D game, where the player character, Agni, must navigate her school life as a cyclops in a world post human-cyclops war. The goal of this class was to design and create a game with a small team. Issues Encountered Due to the small team size, switching mid-semester to online learning due to COVID-19, and having to start from scratch, time was a major problem for Time and Place. There were also issues with unclear communication by the Lead Designer, as well as having to switch to the Lead Designer’s art style. |
Solutions
The problem of time was managed by setting up clear due dates within the team to keep everyone on track, as well as taking on each other’s work when necessary. Communications issues were discussed within the team, and cleared up as quickly as possible, with ideas of how to avoid those communication mistakes in the future. Lastly, I took extra time to study the Lead Designer’s art style to be able to match what they wanted me to create. Skills Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, animation within Adobe Photoshop, schedule management, team interaction and communication, ability to study and replicate another person’s art style, and proficiency in Adobe Premiere . |
Project: Ensonglopedia of the Human
Title: Ensonglopedia of the Human Client: Information Design, John Hinton Date: December 2019 Project Description
The objective of this course was to work with a real-world to produce their product. In this case, we worked with John Hinton on his Ensonglopedia of the Human project, creating assets and animations for his webisodes. Issues Encountered Much of our communication with the client themselves was limited due to distance, making the producer within the class the source of information in regards to what the client wanted. Unfortunately, much of the information we were given was unclear. |
Solutions
Communication within the team, and between the student liaison between the in-class producer, clarified much of the information that we needed. This also resulted in an agreed upon art style based on the information we were given. Skills Communication was key in this project. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects were also necessary, as well as knowledge of human anatomy and research into different parts of human anatomy. |
Project: Creating Machinima Videos
Title: Escaping the Cave: Iron Man Fan Recreation; Escaping the Light Client: Machinima & 3D Animation Date: April 6, 2019; May 7, 2019 Project Description
Both projects involved creating animations within Source Filmmaker; one a recreation of a movie scene, and one an original animation with an original story. Each was done in groups of two. Issues Encountered Having never used Source Filmmaker before this class, figuring out how to use the program was the main issue - on top of time constraints for the projects. There were also some issues with regards to the stiffness of animation. |
Solutions
Learning how to use Source Filmmaker was a combination of experimenting, as well as finding and following guides - although the stiffness of animation simply required more time to fix. The time constraints were navigated by communicating with my partner, and splitting the storyboards that were created in half. Skills These projects required communication skills and proficiency in Source Filmmaker. |
