Maya Milner (Scarlett's character) and Foster Farren (Mackenzie's character)
Oh boy it's been a while. Here's a few things I've made that I haven't posted here, and I promise more soon, but it's probably not going to be posted in the same way. SO UH long time no see. Quick rundown, I wanted to draw a friend cuase she had given me a good idea for something, knew she liked Borderlands 2, so I started there. Realized that I wanted to included her DND character, and the characters in her group. Thought about movie posters, and decided that that would be a good way to include a "blaze of glory." Started making some fire, then started to add the characters, then the text. Realized then that I didn't really like the layout of the characters, so I stopped working on them and started working on her. She was pretty easy actually, and the dark lines around her are kind of nice, kind of reminds me of stained glass. Anyways, I went back to the characters and took a while to figure out where everyone was going to go. At this point they asked why group 2, there were two groups by the way, wasn't included. So I went back and added them as well. Then I went to work on each character, who could each have there own post at this point. Went back and redid the lines, redrew a few people, tried to fix lighting, and there you go. This was a lot of fun to work on, but I'm not totally happy with the result. I'm already going back into it, experimenting with styling to get at least the middle character to fit my vision.
Character list (top left to right): Reze, Foster, Maya (left side under Reze): Pusse, Khell, Deimos (Right side, left to right moving down): Eni, Greg, Khodos, Vasha, Arthur, Bepza And Mackenzie in the middle Well here's a snippet of the next piece (assuming I ever get time to finish the backlog of pieces I've started) just in time for Halloween. Also game assets below. (Time to run and do 2 papers in the next 5 hours yaaay procrastination) One of the projects I have to do is a minimum viable product game, so here are the quick little sprites I through together. I'll link the actual game soon
I'm just starting my next project, since my new computer came in and I go the references I need. The biggest problem right now is that I'm really rusty, so everything is taking longer than I expect. In terms of the goat skull, I had a few references I took myself, but I didn't take any at an angle, so I decided to try to create the angle from the front and side shots I had. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible either.
Oh and by the way, I'll try to be updating this site every Saturday night or Sunday morning. Can't promise anything, since homework levels fluctuate wildly every week, but I'll try. Jon Snow from Game of Thrones and someone who I own a portrait to. I personally don’t like either of the portraits, which is why Jon Snow is unfinished and the other one won’t be posted outside of Weebly. It’s been a rough week, but I’ll be getting the new laptop soon I think, and I sort of have an idea for a larger project.
Hahaha I don't have to type this like I'm in Lansing anymore! Not totally happy with this (she aged a few years, aka the face is too long) but I'm out of practice so I'll take it.
In other news, I don't have any art classes beyond a video class if that counts. So practice is all up to me. Sophie Cruz, drawn from reference Reference: http://remezcla.com/lists/culture/5-reasons-sophie-cruz-would-be-a-better-presidential-candidate-than-pretty-much-anyone-else/ I think this is the last Weebly post for my high school career, which is a bit weird to think about.
Anyways, let's get into this. I knew upon reopening this that the cymbal looked too much like the background, so I started by brightening it significantly. Doing that, unfortunately, meant that the cymbal/ xylophone combo (hut?) looked too out of place. So, I added shadows to the top of the hut, and fixed the interior a bit. Then I added some interior lights, so there are actual light sources, and a little person within the hut. Not entirely sure if I like the pose, since the meaning of the piece isn't well conveyed by it, but at the moment I don't really have the time to redo it. After that I added a bit more detail to the xylophone, as well as fixing a few little things. Maybe I'll fix it next weekend, then I'll turn it into the band room. Maybe not as bright as the band teacher may have expected, but what can I say? All my pieces somehow end up like this. Three weeks of sketchbook, one post.
Okay, so I started by roughing out the cymbal, which will act as the roof for the shelter. At the moment it's not correctly lit, but I'm just trying to make sure that it will work as I want it to. Then I added the xylophone parts, acting as support beams for the cymbal, again just roughly lighting them to make sure it looks alright. After that, I started using clipping masks to put a lot of the background trees in place. From there I started sketching a lot of little rectangles to look like music stands in background, again trying to resemble trees. All of those where behind the 'trunks' of the stands though, so I tried to add enough music stand heads in front of those trunks. Then I added more detailed music stands to the foreground. I was going to add a few of the tops to these, but I actually like it this way. Unfortunately, my laptop's screen is still broken, so I'm relying an external monitor to make this. Basically meaning that the colors are probably off, and so is the differences in grays. |
